RECOMMENDED GRADE LEVEL      9
PRE-REQUISITE                                    None
CREDITS                                                  10
DURATION                                             1st & 2nd semester

COURSE DESCRIPTION                                    Biology is the study of living things.  Units dealing with biochemistry, botany, zoology, cellular biology, genetics and comparative anatomy will be presented during this class.  Laboratory exercises will be conducted when appropriate.  The students will use computers and other technology to enhance learning and add to special projects created by the students.

COURSE TITLE                                     Biology II
RECOMMENDED GRADE LEVEL      11 – 12
PRE-REQUISITE                                     Biology
CREDITS                                                  10
DURATION                                                        1st & 2nd semester
COURSE DESCRIPTION                                    Biology II will include a study of botany, ecology, zoology, genetics and the anatomy and physiology of the human body.  Students will become familiar with classification, biochemical pathways, and investigations pertaining to botany and zoology.  The students will be responsible for computer skills and laboratory investigations.  A Power Point presentation will be presented second semester regarding an area of biology.

COURSE TITLE                                     Advanced Biology
RECOMMENDED GRADE LEVEL    11 – 12
PRE-REQUISITE                                    B or above in Biology and
                                                                 B or above in Pre-Chemistry
CREDITS                                                 10
DURATION                                            1st & 2nd semester

COURSE DESCRIPTION                                    The Advanced Biology course fosters an understanding of the concepts of life including reproduction, balance in nature and the nature of living things.  This course focuses on microorganisms and their effect, careers in science and a strong emphasis on human anatomy and physiology.  The students will be responsible for computer skills and laboratory investigations.  Technology will play an important role in the curriculum.  Tests, papers and special projects will also be incorporated into the class.

COURSE TITLE                                     Physical Science
RECOMMENDED GRADE LEVEL     10
PRE-REQUISITE                                    None
CREDITS                                                10
DURATION                                           1st & 2nd semester

COURSE DESCRIPTION                                    This course emphasizes the every day applications of laws of physics and chemistry.  Students will learn that the technological advances they have taken for granted are applications of scientific principles.

COURSE TITLE                                     Pre-Chemistry
RECOMMENDED GRADE LEVEL     10 – 11 - 12
PRE-REQUISITE                                     A grade of  “A” or “B” in Algebra is required
CREDITS                                                 10
DURATION                                            1st & 2nd semester

COURSE DESCRIPTION                                    This course will study the composition of matter and energy and how it interacts.  This is done by experiments, demonstrations and calculations.  Students will be introduced to computers and other technology to assist them in learning scientific laws.  This course requires a good understanding of math, good memory, and positive learning attitude.  This is generally taught as a college preparatory course and students are encouraged to take Chemistry the following year to complete this preparation.

COURSE TITLE                                     Chemistry
RECOMMENDED GRADE LEVEL     11 – 12
PRE-REQUISITE                                    Pre-Chemistry
CREDITS                                                10
DURATION                                            1st & 2nd semester

COURSE DESCRIPTION                                    This class is a continuation of Pre-Chemistry.  It continues with the portion of the text which has not been covered.  More open-ended experiments are conducted.  All Pre-Chemistry students should take Chemistry to complete college chemistry preparation.

COURSE TITLE                                             Advanced Chemistry
RECOMMENDED GRADE LEVEL             12
PRE-REQUISITE                                             Chemistry
CREDITS                                                          10
DURATION                                                    1st & 2nd semester

COURSE DESCRIPTION                                    This class offers college style laboratory experiences based on pre-chemistry and chemistry topics.  The focus is on building good laboratory practice and procedures.

COURSE TITLE                                     Physics
RECOMMENDED GRADE LEVEL     11 - 12
PRE-REQUISITE                                    Strong math background is essential – Algebra II is a must.  Generally taught as a college prep course.
CREDITS                                                  10
DURATION                                             1st & 2nd semester

COURSE DESCRIPTION                                    Students examine the laws of motion, matter and energy.  All basic mechanics concepts of physics will be covered.  Electricity and magnetism will be explored as time allows.   Students will also develop problem-solving skills and be introduced to solving vector problems as well as other mathematically related physics problems.  Experiments will be conducted and graphing calculators will be used.
