It's FAFSA Time!
It's time for the annual ritual of applying for federal financial aid. If
you've never experienced "FAFSA Time" get ready for a process many
compare to filing federal taxes.
Completing the FAFSA doesn't have to be a grueling process. The key is to
be prepared and know where to go for help. Education Quest offers free professional help with the
entire financial aid process. The EPCs, located in Omaha, Lincoln and Kearney, are open
Monday through Friday from 8:30-5:00.
If you can't make it to an EPC location, you can call the EPC at
800-666-3721 for assistance. Call and make an appointment for assistance if
needed.
Here are some tips to
help you prepare for FAFSA time:
á
Apply for admission
before you complete the FAFSA.
á
Colleges send award letters to students that have been
accepted for admission.
á
You can include up to six
colleges on the FAFSA. If you're not sure which school you will attend, send
the form to all the colleges you applied to.
á
You don't have to file
your taxes, but actual tax figures are ideal, if you get in a pinch, last year's tax
figures are usually better than W-2 figures or guessing.
á
Watch your deadlines.
Check with the college, but most schools have a March 1 priority deadline.
á
Try to complete your tax
return before you complete the
FAFSA
á
Don't rule out a school
because of its cost. The financial aid packages offered by schools can vary
widely, making the out-of-pocket expenses of a high-cost school sometimes
comparable to a less expensive school.
á
Apply for scholarships on
your own and through the college. Every little bit helps when it comes to
financing your education. Some schools have separate scholarship applications,
and some use the admission application. Contact each school you're considering
and inquire about merit and
need-based awards
.
Located in Omaha, Lincoln and Kearney, the Education Quest Centers

assistance completing and processing financial aid applications; scholarship
