COURSE TITLE                                     Spanish I
RECOMMENDED GRADE LEVEL       9 - 12
PRE-REQUISITE                                    None

COURSE DESCRIPTION                        The Spanish I program is designed to help students develop the basic second language skills to attain communicative competency and proficiency in the areas of listening, speaking, reading, and writing.  Special emphasis is placed on pronunciation and simple sentence and question structures as well as intensive study of vocabulary.  Students are encouraged and motivated to pursue a second language.   Enrichment materials and supplemental aids are provided to add variety, to enhance learning, to present items of cultural interest, and introduce general information about the Spanish-speaking world.
Different language acquisition methods and approaches will be employed periodically throughout the course of the year.

COURSE DESCRIPTION                       Spanish II is an intermediate level course of study and a continuation of Spanish I.  The language structure, vocabulary, and concepts increase in complexity and provide the foundation that advanced study requires.  Spanish II offers a range of exercises and activities that lead students to communicative competency.   More emphasis is placed expanding sentences and questions and students are required to use the language more in different activities throughout the year.  Different language acquisition methods and approaches will be employed periodically throughout the course of the year.

PRE-REQUISITE                                    Spanish I and Spanish II

COURSE DESCRIPTION                       Spanish III is an advanced program that provides for continued development of the four language skills:  listening, speaking, reading and writing.  Activities devoted to conversational skills are expanded, and a variety of speaking and listening materials are provided to promote competency in those areas.  A natural approach to learning a foreign language provides experiences that will help students to understand and speak and comprehend Spanish at more intermediate levels of proficiency.  Different language acquisition methods and approaches will be employed periodically throughout the course of the year.

RECOMMENDED GRADE LEVEL      12
PRE-REQUISITE                                    Spanish I, Spanish II and Spanish III
CREDITS                                                10
DURATION                                            1st & 2nd semester

COURSE DESCRIPTION                      Spanish IV is a class designed for advanced Spanish students with an emphasis placed on speaking and carrying on conversations.  Competency in speaking the language will be a priority.  In addition, students will continue to increase and improve their vocabulary and written skills.  Different language acquisition methods and approaches will be employed periodically throughout the course of the year.
