COURSE TITLE                                     Introduction to Business

COURSE DESCRIPTION                         Students of Introduction to Business will learn about starting and running a private business as well as analyzing corporate America.  Specific topics to be covered will include business ethics, economics activity, marketing, human resources and consumer decisions.

COURSE DESCRIPTION                        The students will apply their skills to advanced business problems such as centered messages, letters, outlines, reports, and tables.  Emphasis will be on using the computer for word processing, spreadsheet, database, presentation software and Desktop Publishing. Internet terminology and skills will be reviewed.  Additional subject matter will include computer care and maintenance, security and privacy, and computer ethics.

COURSE DESCRIPTION:                         Another term for accounting is bookkeeping.  The difference between the two terms is simply that in accounting you learn to analyze (better understand) why you are doing certain steps.  You will learn how to keep financial records for a business and can apply the knowledge to your own personal records.  It will provide you with a better understanding of the financial relationship between a customer (which could be you) and a business (which could be yours).  Filing personal income tax forms is also included.  This is an introductory course to accounting for a service and merchandising business.  The accounting cycles for a sole proprietorship, partnership, and corporation are covered.

COURSE DESCRIPTION                         Students will produce a quality yearbook using the Walsworth Yearbook Curriculum.  Students will learn to use a digital camera to take action and still photographs.  Students will use Adobe InDesign, along with Adobe PhotoShop as the computer programs to produce their pages.  Selling yearbooks, ads, and money making projects will be part of the class requirement in order to help in the funding of the yearbook.  Students will also work in small groups to publish the school’s bi-monthly newsletter.  Attention to detail and accuracy are needed qualities for this class.  Students may be required to devote extra time outside of class in order to make deadlines.

COURSE DESCRIPTION:                        This is an advanced applications course designed for students to see the computer as a tool.  Students will gain mastery skills in Microsoft Applications including Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint.  This is also an introductory course to web page design, digital video, image management, and desktop publishing.  Students will create their own web pages in addition to maintaining the school’s web site.  Using image production programs, the students will create and edit short videos using a digital camcorder and video editing software.  Portions of videos may be published.

COURSE DESCRIPTION                        This course is designed for those students pursuing a career in business.  A review of general accounting principles and practices will be covered with an emphasis on advanced accounting principles such as: depreciation, notes, uncollectible accounts, and cost accounting.  Approximately 50% of the accounting work will be automated.
